FAQ
-
What is a mini-mester?
A mini-mester is a short time period between regular semesters. It's a great time to take a shorter college class for extra college credit.
-
Can I register for any course?
Not for this program. The mini-mester program is tailored to serve students taking a 1-credit course. Most students can complete the course in 2+ weeks, making it a perfect way to earn college credit between semesters.
-
Who can participate?
Anyone motivated to take a college course is encouraged to sign up. ASU does not permit current students to participate in this program.
-
What if my teen is currently taking an ASU class?
Your student must finish their current ASU course(s) first.
-
What courses are available during the Mini-mester?
Students may enroll in any 1 credit course. Current offerings include: OLG194 Online Learning Success, CIS194 Business Technology Fundamentals, and FIN123 Money Matters: A Practical Guide to Finance.
-
How long is each course?
Your student should aim to complete the course during their winter break, but the course is available to your student for 1 year.
-
What is GPA protection?
At the end of every course, the student will CHOOSE whether or not to have the grade recorded on their ASU transcript. Choosing to record it means it will be added to their official ASU college transcript. Choosing NOT to record it means it will be purged from their record forever and protecting their GPA from a bad grade.
-
Do these courses count for high school credit?
Homeschool parents can award high school credit for these courses. We recommend awarding up to 0.5 high school credits for every 1 credit ASU course your student completes.
-
What about FERPA for parents?
Federal law requires parents to get authorization from their students to view academic records. ASU has a "Guest Access Permissions" box inside the "My ASU" portal that allows the student to easily authorize your access.
-
What about FERPA for HS4CC?
We will send your student's name, address, and ASURITE ID to ASU for the sole purpose of processing registration. We do not need access to your student's grades or educational records.
